Obituary

On the evening of November 10, 2020, the world lost a beautiful soul. Arlene J. Kane died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87 years old. Arlene was born on February 24, 1933, in Burlington, VT, the daughter of John and Louise St. Amour. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1951, and married the love of her life, Cpl. Thomas C. Kane (U.S. Army), on May 17, 1952. They located to Winooski, where they lived their entire lives and raised two children together. A strong and confident woman, Arlene was the first woman to become a full-time police officer in the city of Winooski in 1959. After ten years in this position, she went on to become an executive secretary at IBM in Essex Jct., VT. She was a valued member of the company, forming many strong relationships until she retired after over 20 years of service. Devout members of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Arlene and Tom enjoyed traveling for Knights of Columbus business. They liked to camp and boat, as well as travel to North Carolina and Florida to visit relatives and friends. Arlene loved the sunshine and enjoyed gardening, reading, and league bowling. In her later years, she loved traveling to the Montreal casino with her dear friend, Ann Greene, and watching NCIS with her cat, Gibbs. Family was always most important to Arlene. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Donald and John, and sister Beatrice (Betty). Her beloved husband, Tom, passed away on October 24, 2002. Arlene is survived by her son, Thomas C. Kane, Jr. and his wife Linda, daughter Karen Cross and husband Paul Cross; grandchildren Danielle Diallo, Sarah Bundy, Thomas C. Kane, III and his wife Katie, Tyler Small, Mackenzie Bossi and her husband, Michael Salcedo, Madison Bossi, Gillian Bossi; great-grandchildren Sali Diallo, Aissa Diallo, Roman Salcedo, Aurora Salcedo, and Camden Bundy. A Mass and memorial service will be held in the summer of 2021 at the convenience of the family, to be announced at a later date.
