Obituary

Christopher Shaun Haley, 63, of Burlington, went home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 17, 2022, in the presence of family following a long battle with cancer.

Chris was born in Plattsburgh, NY, on July 7, 1958, the son of the late John "Jack" William Haley and Gail Patricia (Achen) Haley. Chris graduated from Burlington High School in 1977, where he lettered in both wrestling and football. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1980.

Upon his Honorable Discharge from service, Chris returned home to Burlington to take care of his mother, Gail. After his strong, brave, and successful battle with personal vices, he met and married his wife, and raised his three children- Shannon, Courtney, and Ryan in his own childhood home on Farrington Parkway. Family meant everything to him. He loved being a father and was extremely proud of his children, especially when he saw himself in them.

Chris was a licensed State of Vermont Private investigator, and started the Summons Service Processors of Vermont. Through his work, he developed many close relationships with lawyers, law enforcement officials, and other members of the community. They could always depend on him. Chris's hard work earned the respect and trust of his colleagues, and the North End Community.

Chris was a North End icon for many years. He was well known in the neighborhood for his eccentric personality and mischievous, wry, but very witty sense of humor. Over his many years in the North End, he earned the love of his community, and built many friendships.

Chris was always happy to talk to complete strangers. He wouldn't be shy to strike up a conversation with you. He was a living encyclopedia. Chris always remembered your favorite sports team, and knew precisely how to tease you about them. He was an avid Flyers fan, and loved fellow Vermonter John Leclair, and his teammate Eric Lindross.

Chris spent the last ten years of his life assisting area churches and parishioners, especially his home parish at St. Mark's, where he loved the adoration chapel.

Chris is survived by his three children, Shannon, Courtney, and Ryan Haley, as well as granddaughter Vivienne Helias, and his three siblings--Timothy Haley and his wife Mary-Jane of Danbury, CT, Kim Haley-Chioffi and her husband Gregory of Burlington, and John Haley and his wife Martha, of Raleigh, NC. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his beloved aunt Dr. Joan Achen-Brown, and lifelong friend Jeff Gilbert.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to friend Joey Cruz for staying and caring for Chris during his last few difficult weeks. The family would also like to express sincere thanks to the VNA Hospice team, and Dr. Khan, and the nurses at the University of Vermont Cancer Center for their unwavering kindness and support throughout the years.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 17, at 11:00 AM in St. Mark's Catholic Church in Burlington. Burial will then follow at Resurrection Park Cemetery, in South Burlington, with a celebration of life to follow at the St. John Vianney Parish Hall.

For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to the White River Junction, VT, VA Medical Center for Homeless Veterans, located 215 North Main Street, White River Jct., VT 05009.

Arrangements are under the care of Champlain Cremation, A Proud Member of the LaVigne Funeral Home Family.
