Obituary

Edward Sylvester Madden III of South Burlington, Vermont passed away on October 25th, 2023 at his home in South Burlington after a years long battle with cancer. Ed was born on May 2nd, 1949 to Edward and Mary Madden in Orange, NJ. He graduated from Upper Dublin High School in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania before heading to Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. It was in Maine that he met his future partner in life and business, Leslie McNicol. He and his wife Leslie owned the Rotisserie Restaurant in South Burlington from 1979 to 2002, before ending his working years as a driver for Premier Coach. Ed leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Leslie, sister Kathyrn Payne, daughters Lauren Madden and Kate Madden, Kate's partner Chris King, and two grandsons, Campbell and Maddox King.

For over two decades, Ed and Leslie owned and operated the renowned Rotisserie Restaurant on Williston Road in South Burlington. The Roto became a beloved gathering place for friends and family, with many fond memories. For years the Roto was host to Thanksgiving dinner for close friends and family, some of Ed's favorite memories during their tenure.

A long term member of the Burlington Country Club, Ed could most often be found on the course during summer months, and continued to play into retirement. After retirement, Ed and Leslie split their time between Leslie's hometown of Schroon Lake, New York, in the summer and Umatilla, Florida, during winter months where they quickly found a community of likeminded RVers. They enjoyed exploring new places in their 5th wheel camper with their dachshund, Sam.

Ed's memory will live on with his wife, daughters, and grandsons. A memorial service will be held in summer of 2024.
