Garret Joseph Lash passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in Johnson, Vermont. He died tragically in a traffic accident leaving his mother, Barbara Lash, his stepmother Margaret L. Lash, his late father Gerald George Lash Sr. his brother Gerald (Julie) Lash, Jr., his sisters, Cindi (Philip) Tripken, and Jacqueline (Kenneth) Lash-Idler, his loving nieces and nephews Alexandra, Derek, Ethan, Hannah, George, Joe, Borden, his great-niece Addison, his beloved friend and closest companion of 35 years, Christine Morgan and many other dear extended family and friends.
Born and raised in Denville, NJ, Garret was one of 4 children, and part of the large extended
Lash Family that settled in Denville generations before him. Garret chose to study commercial
art at the Morris County School of Technology, and then graduated Morris Knolls High School,
Denville, NJ.
An adventurer and an accomplished artist, he found challenge and fulfillment in working as a
journeyman's apprentice for Gannett Outdoor Advertising where he gained acclaim for creating
the Hess billboard on display in Giants Stadium, as well as many other billboard displays
throughout New Jersey. An accomplished tradesman, he worked in the construction industry
excelling in all aspects of painting and repairing private homes and industrial spaces. He was
committed to perfection, seeking to provide workmanship above and beyond expectations.
An outdoorsman, he sought solace in the lakes and mountains of New Jersey and Vermont. As
an avid skier, he spent many winter days on some of the most challenging trails in Maine,
Vermont and the Rockies. He loved camping and fishing and did both with a remarkable
appreciation for the gifts brought to him through nature. He believed in a higher power and
spread his simple yet profound spirituality to all who shared life's adventures with him. His
straightforward manner and attitude attracted many friends as they enjoyed his down-to-earth,
yet humorous views of life.
Garret was an active participant in AA as he successfully worked his program in battling
addiction. He influenced and guided others toward a better life. His AA family was very
important to him and as a trusted and supportive friend, he was dedicated to consistently
contributing through service at these meetings.
Garret's sudden passing is a huge loss to his family and friends. He made the world a better
place. Garret was a man, with a huge heart, he understood his mission, and he never let
anyone down. Everyone knew and loved "Big G". He lived his life with love for his family, his
friends, and for the beautiful universe he felt so connected to. He will be remembered in that
universe with love.
Garret's Celebration of Life will be held at the United Church, 100 Lower Main Street West,
Johnson, Vermont, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 5pm Eastern Time. In lieu of flowers, a
donation in Garret's memory may be made to https://www.tu.org/, https://www.aa.org/aa-
