Obituary

John H. Jackson, Esq., age 90, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2020 at the McClure Miller Respite House. John was born in Burlington, Vermont, on February 6, 1930 to Isabelle Whitcomb Jackson and Bradley Smalley Jackson. John graduated from Burlington High School in 1948 and the University of Vermont in 1952. He served in the Korean War before attending Boston University to obtain his law degree. After law school John returned to his beloved Burlington and enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a practicing attorney. He married the former Ann Guyette Fisher on October 8, 1971, and thus began the Jackson Fisher family clan. John was a lifelong member of the Burlington Elks Club and Ethan Allen Club. Through his catholic faith, John was a devoted parishioner of the Saint Johns Divinity Church, and previously the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. John loved a good party and spending time with family and friends. He loved a good joke, jazz music, and dancing with Ann. An avid sports fan, John loved baseball and basketball, especially his Atlanta Braves (who were the Boston Braves when he was in law school) Go Braves! and the UVM Womens basketball team, where he could frequently be found in the bleachers at Patrick Gymnasium cheering them on. His greatest pleasure was watching (and bragging about) his grandchildren, whether it was a sporting or other event that they were involved in. One of his cherished childhood treasures was his Burlington High School Mens State Basketball Championship jacket won in 1948. John is predeceased by his son-in-law Gregory King of Sterling, MA. John is survived by his loving wife Ann (Guyette) Jackson of South Burlington, VT, daughters Ann (Jackson) Hornick and husband Marty of Fairfield, VT, Elizabeth (Jackson) Smith and Chip of Nevada City, CA, Carolyn (Fisher) King of Sterling, MA, Mary (Fisher) Aldrich and husband Bradley of Shelburne, VT, and son Mark Fisher and wife Cathy of South Burlington, as well as fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jeanine Cox of South Burlington, brother-in-law Raymond Guyette and wife Kathy, of Grand Isle, cousin Rob Whitcomb of Essex Junction, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at the McClure Miller Respite House for their compassionate care at the end of his life. Those who wish, may donate in Johns memory to the McClure Miller Respite House, 3113 Roosevelt Hwy., Colchester, VT or UVM Home Health and Hospice at www.uvmhomehealth.org. There will be no service at this time.
