Kenneth P. Babits Sr., age 91, died peacefully with family by his side on November 30,
2024. He was born in Burlington Vermont to John and Hazel (Gabree) Babits on March
8, 1933. Kenneth attended Burlington schools. He joined the Air Force in 1950 and
was honorably discharged in 1954.
He worked in the service department at Vermont Hardware for several years, then
opened Ken's Radio and TV Service on No. Champlain St. In 1968 he closed the
business to become a service tech at JC Penney. When they closed their service
department, he reopened his business under the same name in the Ethan Allen
Shopping Center in the North end of Burlington, selling and servicing the RCA line until
retiring in 1996.
Ken was a current member of the BPOE #916, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie
#793, Moose Lodge #1618, Regular Veterans Association post #514, and American
Legion #91. He was a past member of Masonic Lodge #100 as a 32nd degree of the
Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Shriners Cairo Temple in Rutland.
Ken enjoyed landscaping his yard, power boating with family and friends, oil painting,
and playing pool.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Kathleen, two step-daughters, Deborah Dewees and her
husband Seth, Karen Bogdan and her husband David, two grandsons, Joshua Beaupre,
and Shawn Bedard and wife Megan and their two children. He was pre-deceased by his
parents, stepfather Clifford Bushway, his brother Ross, and two sisters, Marlene Moran
and Starr Springhower.
In keeping with Ken's wishes, there will be no calling hours and interment will be at a
later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to
Special Olympics Vermont, for the Chittenden Delegation, 16 Gregory Dr. Suite 2, So.
Burlington, VT 05403.
