Kristina Lorraine Marcotte of South Hero, Vermont died Wednesday, July 29th, 2020 at the young age of 41, after a long 18 month battle against colon cancer.
She was born to Brian and Cynthia Decker on April 21st, 1979, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Her father was a Navy man so Kristina spent the first 2 months of her life living near a naval air base in Virginia Beach, VA before moving North to Vermont. She resided in Barre, Lyndonville and Milton but spent the majority of her youth in Essex, where she attended Essex Elementary/Middle & High School.
Unbeknownst to her, at the age of 5 Kristina met her husband, Collin Marcotte, in kindergarten. Collin remembers "flirting" with the little girl...basically just pestering her every chance he could. They would reconnect 14 years later, at the age of 19, and married 4 years later on June 5th, 2004. They built a life together in South Hero, Vermont. Kristina devoted her life to her family and raised two exceptional children, Austin and Jenna. She always said, "All I ever wanted was to have a family. To go to birthdays, graduations and weddings." She always knew what was truly important in life.
Kristina had one of those rare, light hearted, playful personalities which was infectious and welcoming to all. With her big, kind blue eyes and large, bright, radiant smile she had the natural ability to make anyone feel comfortable. She was accepting to all and could melt the hardest of hearts. She was a model human being and was someone people were just naturally drawn to. She loved working, mostly due to her love people! Her most enjoyable jobs included Tradewinds Imports, Vermont Brownie Company and Fiori Bridal where she became a manager. Her time at Fiori offered her the opportunity to model at numerous bridal shows in a variety of places, including in New York City, where her natural beauty was on full display.
She was active in her community and loved supporting children. Kristina readily volunteered to coach her sons soccer team when they were in need, despite never having played the game herself. She chaperoned many class trips, school dances, plays and skiing trips. She could be strict and held them to a high standarda quality that gained their love and respect. Kristina loved sipping wine with friends, camping, boating, fishing, scary movies and sand dollar hunting on the Maine coast. She was the first one to show up for people during hard times, never forgot a birthday and was the family planner/organizer for gatherings and Holidays. She was truly a gift to the world and will be sorely missed by so many.
Kristina is predeceased by her father, Brian Decker, Grandparents, Charles Decker, and Neal & Sylvia Dunham and Mother-in-law, Therese Marcotte. Kristina is survived by her husband, Collin R. Marcotte, son Austin, daughter Jenna, grandmother, Naomi Decker, mother & step father Cynthia & Larry Lawyer, Father-in-law, Floyd Marcotte and two brothers Eric (Alysa) & Jason Decker. Nieces and nephews, Samuel, Wyatt & Gabriel Decker, Alexis, Colby & Chloe Lawyer, Bowen & Alexandra Nesbitt and Jordan & Tyson Hawkins and droves of extended family and friends who are simply heartbroken and saddened by this untimely loss.
