If you ever made a phone call to Lorraine Flood and got her voicemail, you would have heard her close her message with these words: "Have a great day and remember God loves you". Lorraine is now safe in the arms of Jesus.
Lorraine Joyce Flood went home to Jesus on Sunday, June 14, 2020, after a period of declining health and a brief illness. She was born in Vermont to Milton and Cora (Fiske) Flood on June 26, 1948. When she was 10 months old, she joined her foster family, the family of Roland and Ruby Whiting, where she was lovingly raised along with her foster siblings, Robert, Anne, and Mary Whiting. She enjoyed life on their farm in Johnson, VT, and as a child would spend time in the barn reading to the cows. She was active at the Johnson Church of the Nazarene, and enjoyed attending camp meeting at Ithiel Falls each summer. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1966. Among many jobs, Lorraine most recently worked for 19 years for the Vermont Department of Labor as a Word Processing Operator. After a bad fall and shattered shoulder resulted in her retirement a few months early, she eventually was able to do a similar type of work from home working for court reporters around the country. Her favorite hobby was knitting. She delighted in taking friends out to eat and enjoyed laughing together with friends and family. She was a very kind and generous person and would sacrifice to meet the needs of others or simply to make them feel special. She attended church regularly while she was in good health and was quick to share the faithfulness of her Lord, Jesus Christ. She especially enjoyed going places with her special friend, Cyndi Benjamin, and loved being a part of the lives of Cyndi's grandchildren, Austin and Jordan. Lorraine is survived by her foster sister, Mary Jackson, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, her foster brother Robert Whiting of Fillmore, New York, and many foster nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and a few great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and most of her relatives living at a distance, we have decided to have a memorial time to honor her life using technology. A few weeks ago, she had hinted at how she would like to have a "zoom get-together" for her birthday. Since her birthday is June 26, we will plan to celebrate her life at 7:30 pm Eastern time on that day.
In lieu of flowers, you may honor her life with a contribution to Samaritan's Purse, one of her favorite charities, or contribute to her final expenses.
If you would like the zoom link, or would like to contribute to her final expenses, please contact Mary Jackson.(bmjackson41@gmail.com).
We would like to extend our thanks and heart-felt appreciation to four special "angels of mercy" who have gone above and beyond to help us handle things from a distance: Lisa Forte, Cyndi Benjamin, Jarelle Flibotte, and Attorney Karen Cooper.
I Corinthians 2:9 "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him."
