Obituary

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of our Gentle Giant, Micha Johannes Loeffler, who unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, October 6th. Born in Burlington, Vermont, on September 4th, 1988, he was 38 years young. Never one to sit still, Micha could always find his happy place in the great outdoors. During his youth, it wasn’t uncommon for him to disappear for hours in the woods, seeing where the next fork in the trail would take him, or racing his bike down the biggest hill he could find. That adventurous spirit continued early in his career when he joined the Crown Point Fire and Rescue Department as a first responder. His love of outdoors turned into a passion with landscaping; he was able to do what he loved until his life-changing accident in 2013. However, his adventurous spirit did not waiver. It just opened a new chapter where he found adaptive sports. He threw himself into adaptive skiing, biking and his most favorite, sled hockey. He was a member of the Vermont Sledcats for 12 years. Having lived in Germany during his formative years, traveling became very important to Micha. Whether it was just to a new town in Vermont that he had never been to, or somewhere out of the US, he was always up to explore. When he met his wife Sarah in 2019, he had a partner to join him and they went anywhere and everywhere. In the short 7 years of their marriage, they were able to go on over 20 different vacations and numerous weekends away. No matter how weird or strange, Micha wanted to go; museums, festivals, off the beaten path towns, they went. While loving adventure and travel, nothing in the world meant more to Micha than those he loved. Family, no matter blood or not, was what made him get up every morning. His generosity and kindness knew no bounds even if it meant giving the last dollar out of his wallet. This showed up the most in one of his favorite jobs working with the unhoused at ANEW Place. Survived by his beloved wife, Sarah Crowley; his parents, Hardy and Katrine Loeffler, his sister Hanna Loeffler, sister and brother-in-law Miriam and Mark Monroe. Nieces and nephews Christine and Aria Monroe, Finn, Jack, Reid and Lily Wells. Mother- and father-in-law Debbie and Ray Crowley. Sister- and brother-in-law Heather and Dillon Wells. Predeceased by his beloved grandmothers Oma and Mutti and his grandfather, Vati. After his accident that caused paralysis in 2013, Micha was the recipient of grants to provide adaptive equipment from the Kelly Brush Foundation, in which he raced under the German flag honoring his heritage, for many years after his accident. This provided Micha the ability to continue his adventures, and knowing how important it is to continue to live life to the fullest, no matter the circumstance, we ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kelly Brush Foundation or Vermont Adaptive Sports in Micha’s name. The celebration of life is to take place Saturday, October 17th at the Eagles club in Milton, VT from 5-8pm. Come share a beer and some memories. If you feel so inclined, please wear his favorite color, red. Finally, we would like to thank the Milton first responders, the Center for Donation and Transplant NY/VT, and UVM Medical Center MICU for everything they did for Micha and his family during this unfathomable time. Please consider becoming an organ donor
